WHERE IS MY MIND?

PHYSICAL

Clay serves as a powerful metaphor and teacher for our journey through life. Just as clay can be shaped through careful manipulation and repetition, we too can define our own processes to shape our existence. The wisdom of having two ears and one mouth reminds us to listen more than we speak, a lesson that often becomes clearer with every experience. Learning to listen to my body, the people around me and the world. Each day presents a new opportunity to adapt and reorganize the building blocks of our lives. As we continue to show up for ourselves, we slowly transform our physical realities.

MENTAL

In life, we often find ourselves questioning our purpose, constantly learning about ourselves and the world around us. This journey has led me to discover that the process is truly what resonates with my direction in life. Through my experiences with clay, I’ve learned to embrace both its limits and its beauty, realizing that by pushing against the constraints to the breaking point, I have uncovered solutions and beauty. This mirrors my experience of reconnecting with my authentic self, pushing myself to show up and listening to my mind, wherever it is at in the moment. As I faced repeated experiences with death and life, I was able to break free from old beliefs and redirect my inner dialogue, questioning what is important in life. By following this process, I’ve transformed my life, stepping into the artist I was always meant to be, finding and capturing the beauty in the world.

EMOTIONAL

The sculpture is deeply rooted in the interplay between life, death, perspective, and identity. As emotions are not something we are taught to fully understand or process, repeated near-death experiences have led to the potential for new insights. Reconnecting with the same emotions in different parts of my journey, in the face of death I realised I was always running away from a life I didn't want. This has allowed me to break free, finally running towards growth and a life I want to build. The arrangement of the beso blocks reflects my personal journey, illustrating the struggle of feeling both not good enough and too much at the same time, never fitting the mold. I have reorganized my 26 blocks of life, understanding that I will have contradicting emotions and feelings that are universally shared, but uniquely mine. By reframing and listening to myself every day, I feel supported in where I am right now, with how I feel and how I show up for myself. The hands cradling the skulls embody the ongoing process of building our lives, highlighting that growth is a continuous cycle of reflection, transformation and new perspectives. As we slowly gain a better glimpse into our potential, we can also appreciate where we came from. Through this piece, I've discovered that embracing both our past and sitting with our emotions allows me to see the possibilities of the future, empowering us to navigate our paths with greater clarity and purpose.

SOCIAL

Through every cycle of life, death, and rebirth, I have had to question how I fit into society and how changes in my physical, mental, and emotional aspects affect  how I interact with the people around me. In society, we are all too busy, distracted, and exhausted to break down and rebuild our processes in life that better suit our circumstances. So, we hold onto skin-deep scars and show up with our glazed versions of ourselves, using what happened to us as a shield while also identifying and reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that were damaged by society. We are brought up in a broken world, but within all the meaningless things life throws our way, the person you are, the people you meet, the nature we come from, and the environment we choose to thrive in is where you find all the meaning in life.
